The Villány wine region has become the most famous red wine producing region in the country.

What is worth knowing about the wine region?

 

    • from the country's southernmost wine region,

The jewel of the Villány wine region: Palkonya

Palkonya is a village with one street, located at the northeastern end of the Villányi Hills, which hides countless treasures for tourists!

LISTINGS
The historic cellar row, consisting of 53 press houses on a hillside, offers visitors a beautiful view. In addition, the red-domed St. Elisabeth's Church, also a historic monument, is also famous: the Catholic church was built by the Batthyány family and consecrated in 1816 in honour of St. Elisabeth. In addition, half of the houses in the village are protected as local monuments.

The Palkonya fish ponds bring the beauty of the countryside even closer, and their tranquillity is a refreshing experience for those who come for fishing and hiking. RESULTS
The municipality was the first in Hungary to win the European Cultural Village title.
Accordingly, the Villány wine region, including Palkonya, offers a wide range of cultural and gastronomic events.

    • The most visited and most famous event in the village is the Palkonya Pentecost Open Cellars. The small village then becomes a festival hub, with excellent wines, a historic cellar, atmospheric cultural events and popular music concerts to make the celebrations a real experience.
    • With the onset of autumn, the Harvest Open Cellars offers a colourful programme of events inspired by the Spring Festival.
    • Palkonya is one of the venues of the increasingly popular Devil's Den Festivalto.
